Where Did Mini Golf Come From?

Of course you wouldn’t see Tiger Woods playing this form of the sport (or would you at the moment) but mini golf has a very important role in the world too.

Believe it or not there have been a lot of arguments around who technically brought in the whole idea for crazy golf but it was first seen in 1867 in St Andrews Golf Club. This 18 hole course is actually still sitting in its location today and although it isnt crazy golf it is still arugably mini golf as it has 18 mini holes of putting greens.

Over time these started to pop up all over the place and many hotels across the United States and Great Britain had them installed to amuse the guests during their stay. A mini putter was used as well as a short driver and it was often called garden golf or clock golf.

However the very first commercial mass produced “crazy golf” course to ever make it out was the Thistle Dhu course and this came to be in 1916 in North Carolina. After the artifical style greens had been introduced it really did start to kick off and before the depression in 1929 there were over 150 mini golf courses on the rooftops of New York!

You cannot load up those marine batteries and leisure batteries and put them in your mini golf trolleys you can actually have a golf trolley just for the putters that people use to play the sport.

All the major destinations in the world will have at least one mini golf course no including huge places such as Disney World in Florida, it just goes to show how popular the game has become.
